Age of Conversation: Three months later

Conversation_cover A little over 3 months ago, we launched Age of Conversation with our fingers crossed.  We came screaming out of the gate.

103 authors, most of whom have never looked each other in the eyes.  From 10 different countries.  Working together for a common vision — to publish a book they could be proud of and raise money for the world’s children.

So, how are we doing so far?

In the 90+ days since our launch, together we have raised $10,380.81! (That’s 1,351 books)

That’s the good news.  The bad news is that 98% of those sales took place in the first 60 days.

It’s time to prove that we know how to market.  The holidays are coming and Age of Conversation would make a great gift for clients, business partners, family or friends.

We’ve got a couple ideas up our sleeve but would love to get some from you too.  How can we get AoC back on the radar screen and on everyone’s wish list this holiday season?

Could we raise another $10,000 in the next 90 days?

  1. This is a challenging task, but I believe we can make it. How?
The easy way: buy copies for Xmas present
The tough way: turn some companies, clients of us maybe, to buy copies and make Xmas present.
The toughest way: to close deal with marketing and web related event to buy and distribute copies of the book.

    What’s your opinion?

The naked brigade is standing by and awaiting your orders!

    What about:
    – faux naked pictures of every author campaign?
    – naked man painted with the logo and URL that runs out at the next major sporting event?
    – men and women of AoC calendar? (ala Seinfeld semi-naked stunt)

Drew! Nice idea – a good book for holiday giving (and a great cause.)

Sean, I’m naked under my clothes.

    Lewis: Amen!

  4. I’m reading “The Age of Conversation” for an MBA class taught by Timothy Johnson at Drake University. Although I am not quite half way through, I am enjoying it immensely.

Since the blogosphere is such a “huge” world, I think word by “blogs” could be a good marketing strategy.

I’ll make sure and put a post on my blog referencing this blog and “The Age of Conversation”.

Good luck to you on this journey!

  5. Thanks for all the suggestions everyone. Keep them coming! Gavin and I have an idea we want to run by you, but would like to tap your collective wisdom before we toss it out to you.

  6. Eric,

Glad to hear you’re enjoying the book! I think I am speaking to your class next week. Come armed with good questions!

    Drew,

Have you sent one to Oprah yet?

That is a semi-serious idea. What I’m driving at is in our collective LinkedIn, Facebook etc. world, some of us must know someone even more famous than the authors…

This could be a professor at a b-school, Oprah, a visible CEO, etc.

  8. Joe,

Hmm, no we hadn’t sent one to Oprah. I’m game to try it if someone knows how to make that happen?

Is it as easy as going to her website or is there some secrets to it?

Good idea about looking for someone with some clout. We did send a copy to Tom Peters, I know.

    Thoughts? Suggestions of people?

  9. Find a way to get a limited number of hand-signed versions of the Age of Conversation (signed by all 100+ authors, of course). Auction them off online to the highest bidder and donate all the proceeds to charity.

  10. Ryan,

We had that in the works but it never got off the ground. Want to spearhead that?

I can get you five books to have signed.

    Drew
