Drew – it was a fun exercise to do for Anita. Here’s one more from my days as a Brownie Leader in Boston. “Make new friends but keep the old. One is silver and the other gold.” In terms of marketing – don’t neglect your old customers in the race to secure new customers.

  2. Toby,

I agree — that’s one of the biggest mistakes most companies make, in my opinion. They chase the new business but neglect continuing to woo the clients they do have.

  3. It does seem to be a frequent course of action in terms of “sales” to overemphasize new accounts while ignoring the hard-won equity in existing accounts. It’s valuable to also watch and learn from our competition: who’s better at landing new clients, who’s better at retaining clients, and how everyone goes about it all.

  4. Steve,

I don’t know if it is the thrill of the hunt or just a fear that you can never rest on your laurels — but the balance of marketing efforts really needs to be flipped on its end, in my opinion.

And as you and I both know — there are plenty of bad marketing examples out there! Thanks for sharing the link!

    Drew
