Extinction is right around the corner…

For getting lost, desktop computers and glaciers.  At least according to The Future Trends book called Future Files by Richard Watson.  (buy it by clicking here)

As part of the promotion of the book, the author released the chart below.   It's an extinction timeline…predicting that newspaper delivery will be gone by 2012 and FM radio by 2027.

I promise you…you'll find this fascinating and its content will be your conversation starter for at least a week.

    Very interesting!

Had a conversation yesterday about the obvious demise of the Yellow Page method of reaching customers in need of specific products and services. Ten years ago, this wouldn’t have seemed possible.

The one scary part of this chart seems to be the extinction of “retirement.” Wouldn’t have thought that possible either, but given the current economy, it seems possible, too.

    Great Stuff!
    Thanks,

I noticed retirement on the chart as well. But, then I started to think about it. I don’t know too many people who at the age of 65 or even 70 are hanging it up and heading to the fishing hole anymore.

It seems like people are figuring out new and perhaps more pleasurable ways to use their talents well into their retirement years.

I’m hoping that’s what the chart is talking about!

Poor Maldives. Do they know they only have about 10 years left? Thanks for posting this. I’m going to pass it along to people just because I think the chart is so funny.

  4. Tracy,

It’s fascinating stuff. I have yet to show it to anyone where it didn’t spark a lively discussion!

I don’t think that newspaper delivery will be gone yes but I agree that the extinction is round the corner.

If this happens then I am sure that people will miss newspapers most with their Sunday morning tea.

  6. The speed with which technology is growing in underdeveloped countries it is possible that newspaper extinction is round the corner.
